There has been some correspondence in the press lately with individuals objecting to being sent Christmas cards with printed addressed labels, rather than hand written envelopes, and "Round Robin" family newsletters.

I personally love heard from friends at this time of year, no matter in what form I receive their greetings. What do other people think ?

Well I think it is impossible to expect someone to write out that much news by hand to every single person and I would much rather hear from them than not at all. However .. .I did receive one a couple of years ago from my ex sister in law which had comments like "as Little Johnny's father does not visit him often he goes to rugby with another family " and "as his grandparents were unable to have him to stay as they were too busy" etc. and that is the sort of Round Robin one can do without !!!!! Mind you I had one this morning and I could not for the life of me work out who they were even with a pic of them with Santa hats on at the top ... finally I worked out it was an old work colleague I had not seen for nine years !!!!!!

I completely agree with you. Round Robin letters don't bother me. Of course, there is nothing nicer than a hand-written letter written just to me, but people are so busy that I imagine it's a choice between a Round Robin or no letter at all. So many of my friends have kids and also have to work so I wouldn't begrudge them saving themselves some time.

As for people objecting to printed address labels - why?!!!

I received a round robin this morning and it didn't bother me one bit. Personally can't see the problem with them, agree with everyone else here :o)

Also can't see the problem with printed address labels either! lol Surely with most people having a computer these days what does everyone expect? Sounds like a reason for people to moan about nothing!

Merry Christmas btw :o)

I really don't care which method is used, a Christmas card means that whoever sent it, remembers you, and is keeping in touch,
I think what wendyS is the letters in the times and telegraph and that some comment was made about these round robins that they boast how many holidays they've had and all the exams children have passed etc, and the address labels are easily for the post. I have received envelopes with labels, as for a number of years I've not sent any cards, it doesn't bother me I feel christmas has lost all meaning, its really just an excuse now for people getting drunk and the dash and rush in the shops at tesco's yesterday was bashed with trolleys and its all commericial I have brought stamps in the cathedral bookshop all year and last week greeted with so your another one getting out from queues at the post office. I was disgusted and said wasn;t for any cards then said we don't make anything on stamps, and this really sums up things and the true christmas spirit has indeed gone. I am glad the shops won't be cashing in on any purchases from me.

I look forward to the computerised letter in my christmas card from some friends who always use the same method of "the christmas update" it is nice to be remembered once a year by friends who you don't see so often. As for printed labels, well what is the problem?at least the postal service can read it and you stand a better chance or receiving the mail!!

Happy Christmas everyone and I'm sorry I couldn't hand-write this comment!!!

I don't mind at all.Any form of communication is always welcome with me.I write a lot of letters during the year to friends on the computer. But come Christmas I am grateful to be able to print address labels on the computer.I do write inside the cards though.I find writing more of a strain these days with my swollen fingers from arthritis and typing is easier for me.I start off writing O.K but by the time I get to the end of a letter you would have a hard job to decipher it !!
Especially with so many cards being red or other colours , printed labels make the addresses so much clearer to read.
Meant envelopes being coloured of course! It was late!
i use the christmas letter to all my friends i havent seen in the last year and that totals over 50 as they are spread over the world and britian. i just dont have time to hand write a separate letter to everyone and as far as i know everyone is happy to get them. At least then they can read it clearly - important for the elderly ones.
