I have a long way to go yet - but just wanted to know how much to expect. Thanks

its a lot of money, though i hadn't expected quite so much with this one hospital in Southampton.
it doesn't give the cost but this is a private hospital in Kingsbridge Belfast.

Have you been diagnosed as needing a knee replacement? Perhaps you should wait and see what the hospital says on the subject and not jump the gun.
If required you would get it on the NHS
Someone I know has been quoted £13,000 for both knees. Another lady had hers done in India (Goa) for considerably less & had a good outcome.
i have been diagnosed with needing a knee replacement, and am waiting to hear when it might happen, i was told it could be sometime this year or early next, its a long wait in NHS.
A friend of a friend, one knee replacement £14,000 done last week . Waiting list was horrendous , .
I don't know how much it costs but I think NHS waiting times must depend on area. People seem to get it done fairly quickly where I live.
Yes, it does depend on area.

Horrendous waiting times here in the South.
05.58 - sorry the price quoted was £32,000 (not £13,000) for both knees!

(the guy is a multi-millionaire but still baulks at the cost)
Our local Nuffield Hospital gives a 'guide price' of £16,305 but notes that "The final price may vary according to Consultant fees, prosthesis or drugs used and any pre-existing medical conditions which may alter your care pathway".

Living in Somerset, my cousin's friend has just had one done £17,000!
Jenny, if necessary, I think it's cheaper to get it done in Eire, your doctor would probably be able to advise you
Buenchico, I suppose it would depend if the care pathway was level and well maintained by the council, or up a mountain somewhere.
I will go to India if I need mine doing - £5000 for both!

(under the NHS you may well get an Indian surgeon anyway)
I've thought of going abroad for dental implants, davebro; what deters me is the need for the occasional follow-up appointment. I don't know if this applies to knees as well but my sister had several appointments before and after she got a new knee. Perhaps they could be done without?

In Ipswich it's exactly the same surgical team at the (private) Nuffield hospital as it is at the (NHS) Ipswich Hospital. Last year my friend and I both had the same minor op done. At the NHS hospital, I got it done for free and (apart from the obligatory fortnight's self-isolation due to Covid), straight away. My friend had to wait for several months for his private op though, which cost him about £9k.
My relative wasn't allowed to fly for at least 6 weeks after her knee replacement so bear that in mind if you are thinking of having the operation abroad.
Sitting in a plane seat for hours will not be comfortable
I would combine it with a long holiday in Goa!
