Daughter Gone Yellow

I'm having a sort of shaky panic here. My incredibly healthy (save for sports injuries) 47 yr.-old daughter, L,, met me for my birthday on Sat. and told me that her husband had told her that twice in the last week she had gone yellow ( she does very much NOT drink a lot) and that she was to go to the GP for some tests this morning.

Her younger sister just rang me to say that Leone has been told to go immediately to hospital for further tests.

She was fine on Saturday. I'm casting around for help and informatiion, please. Sister just rang to say that L. was feeling nauseous, if that's any clue. Any help or ideas welcome, I'm feeling a bit shaky.

Thank you very much for asking, LadyCG. It's all rather a puzzle. She at home and feeling much better, but it turns out that her actual enzyme level was even higher that I thought - at 1,400.

All the scans showed no lumps, polyps. nor anything unusual on her liver or anything else they checked - and I think they checked almost everything. So that is a huge relief.
They telephoned to say that they had ruled out Hepatitis A and B, so it was unlikely that she has/had hepatitis E. We should, hopefully, discover more on Tuesday. Meanwhile she's been working from home, she's an I.F.A. and trying to take things easy.coming down
I'll feel a lot happier if they can tell us that those levels are down.

What scans did she have jourdain.
Have her urine and stool been normal colour ?

I'll check, anneasquith. Certainly ultrasound & x-rays. The comforting bit is that they seem to be treating it as a challenge. They are saying that they think it is a past event which she has survived. I'd very much like to hear that those levels are down.

Jourdain, I went yellow last time I had glandular fever - circa 2002. I had hepatosplenomegaly and the jaundice was creeping down from my hairline.

Well now we know!!
She has somehow caught the Hepatitis E. virus. Probably on their recent holiday in Portugal. Her enzyme levels are down from just over 1400 to 175 and she is feeling much better.
Instructions are to take it easy, not cook anything or handle food for anyone else for a month and go back for another blood test in 4 weeks. Phew!

Thank you all you lovely people for sticking with me through all the worry. I'm very grateful. xxx
