That's one of the B vitamins isn't it. I believe all the B vits are known to help the nervous system, and in turn anxiety. B6 and B12 are particularly helpful.

Yes, it's B1.
I just googled it. Do you take it now...as I know you've mentioned having some issues with drinking. B1 is used in treatment from what I just quickly read.
When I was having a recurrence of anxiety a few months ago, it was B6 and 12 that came up as most useful...and I've taken them both seperately and in a B complex in the past.
Right now I'm taking B12.

I started a few days ago. They were prescribed by my GP.
I am feeling a bit better but that might just be something of a placebo effect or the knowledge that I've set change in progress.
My feelings on the subject:

There is no good medical studies that show that high levels of VitB have any effect on mood if your blood levels of Vit B complex is normal.

I have little faith in the treatment of depression or anxiety states with B complex.

if one does have low B complex Vitamins in the blood and one is suffering anxiety and/or depression, then one cannot assume a causal link.

All my above comments exclude VitB12 deficiency which is quite a different problem.

I've read prolonged heavy drinking can deplete Vitamin B, sometimes even leading to Beriberi. Hopefully, I'm nowhere near that yet.

I'll continue taking the tablets. Even if they do no good they'll probably do no harm.

The OPer is enquiring about B1 .........which is not involved in your link.
Sqad, just found the full version of the paper mentioned by pasta on an university archive website as a downloadsble pdf. The first few paragraphs of the page are a bit messy but the full article is readable a little further down. I'll never regard marmite the same way again!

I felt that as Sandy was seeking help for anxiety, that mentioning the possible benefits of other B vitamins might be useful to him.
Thanks pasta, but as I mentioned that trial invlved two of the B complex of vitamins, B12 and B6, sandy's enquiry is about B1 (thiamine).
