Knuckle Pain

Whilst picking a tray up at the airport a few months ago with one hand, the contents slid and as the tray started to fall I tried to correct it and my index finger and middle finger were bent back. Immediately I was in pain and a lump appeared between my index and middle finger. I was unable to treat it immediately as I was flying home from Spain half an hour later. I strapped the two fingers together for a few days and took painkillers. I thought it would get better but 8 weeks later the swelling was still there and although I can make a fist I can’t squeeze with that hand and it’s still painful. I showed it to the nurse at my Gp and she said It was too late to get it xrayed and she didn’t think it was broken. Anyone had a similar experience and know if it might ease with time or if I do need to go to minor injuries please ?

Just a bit confused here as to where the lump is, on the knuckle or between the fingers.

However it does sound like a haematoma, a sudden bleed into the tissues and may take time to resolve and it may even persist as a lump for the rest of your life.
It is not a big deal.

We seem to be in a transitional period, between it persisting and resolving.

Take Ibuprofen for the pain and give it another couple of months and if you are still worried then see your GP with a suggestion of a referral to a hand surgeon.

Thanks sqad. The swelling is on the back of my hand, between the first and second knuckle. I am taking ibuprofen. The pain is mainly in my middle finger but also my index finger. I will see how it goes. Cheers
