Does £8000 For A Rehab Course Seem Reasonable?

I need to make a clear break between drinking and sobriety and a period of time in a clinic might provide that.

Have you asked your counsellor if he/she could recommend somewhere? If you can afford it, go for it. As you say, you're mid 70's so spend your money on something that will help you instead of leaving it for others to spend. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I suppose a clear break between drinking and sobriety would work if you don't know why you drink. If you have an inkling as to why you drink then maybe it's not worth paying that much to find out what you already know? Just my thought. Maybe you need the tools to stop you drinking and if you suffer from depression then maybe a visit to the GP could be a good first step. There is a programme on iplayer about AA which might be interesting for you.
