New year new resolutions, so I am restarting the old group. We can celebrate losses and offer support.
No one approach is better than any other here.... Do what works for you.

I’m not meaning to be defeatist already, but I have a relative staying this weekend. So I will use the next few days to prepare for a new regime.

In answer to the shortbread. I would eat a few more today and throw the rest away. Drastic and wasteful I know, but realistic.

I will pack my relative off with a few remaining treats and all the unopened gifts of biscuits and chocolate are going in a bag now ready for the food bank.

I’ve written it down so it’s as good as done!
My advice would be to eat what you like. A bit of what you fancy does you good!
As long as you know when to stop clarion
Why buy things you know you shouldn't be eating?
Naomi is that aimed at me?
Over the years we have had this discussion many times, for some footis an addiction it doesn’t matter what surgery you have or what medication you take the addiction is still there.
I am now 6 years post op and bad habits have started to creep in. I don’t live alone and therefore share my kitchen with someone else.
We all don’t have the necessary willpower.
naomi, a lot of people will have received food as Christmas presents, and unless you live alone there will be treats in the house especially at this time of year.
I have to buy a lot of high calorie food that I won't eat for me oldsters that don't have a big appetites but need to keep their weight up.
I didn't realise it is 6 years since your op, RH - time has flown by. Has any of your lost weight crept back on?
A stone Barry and only in the last year, I have beaten the odds significantly, most bariatric surgeons advise that patients start to gain weight after about 2 years.
Not to their previous size but just habit that start to creep in again.

It Depends on your willpower, I can't just have one of a thing like shortbread, so all my leftover sweet goodies are bagged up for the foodbank, I won't have them in the house. However if it is going to definitely be one piece a day as your only treat ... My treat is really good coffee, made properly and enjoyed without distractions. And 70% or higher cocoa solids chocolate. I can be disciplined with it as more than a couple of squares gives me a headache.

Last of the full fat cheese( mostly stilton) is going into a quiche which I will freeze in small portions for Lunches with a pile of salad I tend to go with small amounts of strongly flavoured stuff packed out with assorted rabbit food. Writing tomorrow's shopping list, and cleaning out the fridge and freezer on the agenda today.

I am quite pleased. I am starting this year a stone down on last year, and only four pounds up on my lowest from last year. Lots to lose but concentrating on eating healthy food at least 80% of the time.
RH, it wasn't 'aimed' at all. It was just a question. I have a friend who's type 2 diabetic and grossly overweight. She eats huge amounts but thinks if she puts a bit of lettuce on her plate that's healthy. She buys bottles and bottles of fizzy drinks - obviously not something she should be doing so it makes no sense to me. I asked her why - she said she likes it. What can you do?
You can do absolutely nothing, it’s like any other addiction the person has to be ready to tackle it themselves.
Unfortunately unlike alcohol and drugs you cannot cut food out all together
You've done well, RH. Do you feel the cold more since losing so much weight?
I received numerous sweet treats for Christmas which are going to the foodbank.

I’m not blaming him but Mr M is lucky enough to be able to eat whatever he likes and remain at a constant weight. I only have to look at a biscuit or a chunk of cheddar and I’ve gained. So when he orders a portion of chips with every meal I have to resist. But I’ve done it before and I can do it again.

My sister is not getting her head round her diabetes either, she eats a reasonable diet but can't get her head round treats having to be just that... She seems to think it's ok to have... Some chocolate... Some wine.... Some high carb foods every day, I have given her loads of info, but because she has cut down a bit she can't understand why it's not enough.

I am the opposite despite being far more overweight I have gone from prediabetic (just two points below a diabetes diagnosis) to now being firmly back in the normal range. My GP is stunned but my cholesterol is normal too.
Rowan, you would have been eligible for Saxenda in your pre-diabetes state.

The results I've seen from patients on Saxenda have been remarkable.
Absolutely freezing Barry all the time, the layers I wear each day is terrible

I was offered a slot on the pre bariatric surgery programme some years ago, I still meet the criteria My reasons for turning it down at the time revolved around my need to care for Dave, now I am not so sure.
But I've only just found the perfect fit underpants.:>(
can I join too please. Very selfish of me recently - usually I bag my sweetie bag and give to foodbank. not this time.

opened Quality Street and ate 4 sweets - rest was dumped in the bin. Opened Thorntons ate 2 sweets and rest was dumped too and again for a tub of Roses - ate maybe 5 but the rest was dumped as well. I also have not been drinking alcohol for the last 3 weeks and I haven't missed it
I will join also. Even though I don't have much I want to lose (probably under 10lb), and I already belong to another site discussing diet and health, it's a way to share and be accountable.
Last year was a bad year emotionally, and that's when I turn to certain foods for comfort...its always been the way. I need to free myself from those bad habits.
