I suffer with very dry eyes from time to time, it comes on for no apparent reason, last night one eye was really painful and stinging, I tried various drops and an old bottle of chloramphenicol…. It has been in fridge …. Later in the evening I noticed my eye was slightly smaller, was slightly red, lid red and slightly swollen. Not sticky, doesn’t look red inside eye, but still slightly swollen eyelid, not painful any more. Help please! Buying a new chloramphenicol today by the way …..

I agree with you smurfy, chloromycetin drops or ointment should settle it down.
Might be worth getting it looked at by GP or optician. My husband kept getting this every few months and assumed it was conjunctivitis or similar but started getting worse. Turned out it was blepharitis which can damage the surface of the eye. He now has daily drops for it.
Chloramphenicol drops should be discarded 28 days after opening even if they are stored in a fridge. You probably need fresh , or eye ointment which stays in the affected area for longer.

Interesting. If it doesn’t get back to normal by tomorrow, I will go and see my optician. Yes sounds like blepharitis. Thanks all, what would I do without you?
Do you practise good lid hygiene? If not, it's worth a Google.

Just out of curiosity, you don't suffer dry mouth too do you?

Mouth not particularly dry, but my face lately has been very dry, eye better but skin on lid is dry now. Vaseline on lid made my eye sting a bit so I washed it off, if it’s not one thing it’s another …
Hi Smurf. I get a dry face when I'm a bit run down. Sometimes I get cracked skin at the sides of my nose if I'm really run down.

A good multivitamin and extra Vitamin D and C won't do you any harm at this time of year, together with plenty of rest.
