Spirometry - How Can There Be Upper Airway Obstruction But Good Lower Airway?

So after a 5 month wait I have had some spirometry test (- it was supposed to be for reassurance as I have rhinitis/history of asthma). Also my peak flow has always been low/300 for some reason.

However I was informed that I have an above average result for lower airways but the curve indicates that I have upper airway obstruction-

Either way this fits well with my recent throat symptoms which I just so happened to develop 3 months ago whilst waiting for the test (tingling below adams apple, raspy/whistle breathing and scary episodes of tight upper chest which ventolin didn’t help ). The symptoms have improved a little. They actually started whilst I was using nasal steroid drops.

I also had a nasoendoscopy which was clear. A barium swallow showed mild esophageal dysmotility. I was put on omeprazole by my gp but the gastro doctor doesn’t think it is reflux/anything to worry about.

I put it down to anxiety/was told I could have globus sensation initially but anxiety doesn’t cause upper airway obstruction does it..

When I told my family they couldn’t understand how, if the upper airway is obstructed, the lower airway can be above average and receive air, as the air has to get through the upper airway first.

I kind of know what they mean. It works in a pressure gradient doesn’t it. Can anyone explain?

Also does anyone know much about what can cause upper airway obstruction? I have a 8 week wait till the follow up appointment. I have been managing steady 10 minute runs but can’t help worrying a bit about this spirometry ‘obstruction’
