Hair loss from stress

When a person is under a lot of stress, he/she shows patchy areas of hair loss. Is it called alopecia? I'd like to know whether it can happen at any age. I'd also like to know why this happens. Thanx.

I'm sure that this question has already been answered. Yes it is alopecia, it can happen at any age and no one is sure why it does happen.
