Why are we attracted to a certain type of an opposite sex? Some people like a fat person and some don't, etc. Are we born wit this or is it a learned behavior? Thanks.

It's probably a combination of the two - but there is an aspect of learned behaviour there. I have always found women who are small with dark hair, big eyes and turned-up noses really attractive, and while aimlessly surfing one day, I came across a photo of Wendy Padbury who played one of the early ' assistants' in 'Doctor Who' and I simultaneously realised that she was my archetypal fanciable woman, and that I'd had a serious crush on her as a thirteen-year-old, so it may be that she became my 'type' model, and I never conciously recognised the fact, until I saw her photo.

It's strange this "type" thing. I always thought that my ideal man would be six foot tall, well built and dark haired. This is the type I always went for and most men I fancied were as described. My husband, who I fell in love with at first sight is short, skinny and blonde. I'd never have thought he was my type, but there was something about him, i think it must be chemistry.
Saw a programme about this on the Open University a few months ago at 3 in the morning. It's (apparently) to do with a combination of pheromones, genetic memory as in inherited preferences of your ancestors.

Well my husband is absolutely nothing like my father in any shape or form, my dad is big built, 6 foot, dark hair and eyes and very chauvinistic. My husband is as I desribed before with blue eyes and very intelligent and much more modern in his attitudes. I think the problem with scientists etc is that they like to have a physical, sensible reason for things that can't be explained.
