Anyone tried or is using a back brace, if so would you recommend them? I've been getting a pain in my back (lower right side) which wont go away. Some days worse than others.
I know a brace wont fix it but maybe it will give some relief?

my own recommendation would be to see an osteopath, but I realise they're not for everyone. It does sound like a lower spine/pelvis thing.

Thanks jno. I've been putting off doing anything about for a while because when it's at it's best it's just a niggle. Now there are times when walking is agony. Osteopathy might be the way to go. I'll give it some thought.
I would never advise anyone about back pain because anything has the potential to make it worse, whether that be a brace, yoga, new mattress.
Get an expert opinion as to the cause before trying anything.
Pain is miserable, hope you get help soon

Thanks Barry. I'll try to get an appointment with my doctor but that's more of a pain than, well, my back pain.
I use one of these when I'm having issues (Elctrician with heavy hands on work). It's my second one in 8+ years. It allows my back muscles to recover whilst being able to carry on with lighter duties. Personally, For the money I think they're fantastic. Just recommended this to a friend. He said the same.
If you think it's spinal, See the Doctor. If you think it's a pulled or tired muscle, This might work for you. If you're in doubt, seek medical advice.

The answer to your question is not as simple as it seems. You'd be right by wearing a brace for support would reduce your pain but understand there is a cost. The cost is that the brace will be performing what your muscles should be (spinal support)and they will start to weaken (atrophy) since you are not utilizing them. This will cause further problems (pain) down the road. It sounds to me that you need to be further evaluated as to the cause of your pain. I would recommend possibly looking at your left sacroiliac (might be locked) as you might be putting more stress on your right side (compensation) causing you to have increased pain on the right. There's an easy test you can try. Stand between two dining room chairs back to back. Place your hands on the back of the chairs for support facing between them and lift one leg (marching), knee bent, waist height. If when lifting you have a restriction (feels tight) or feel your pelvis hike (hip rotates sideways) in order for your knee to reach waist height you probably have a locked sacroiliac. Worth getting checked out as you sound like you have had it a while. I agree that if the obvious things like ibuprofen and rest haven't helped you can make it worse trying to fix it yourself. An mri scan to check the discs might be needed.
