Over the past year, after a period of severe anxiety, I have been trying to understand myself more, build resilience and develop tools to be able to deal with what life throws at me

I have realised that one thing is I find it hard to accept change. Some examples are I have been a member of a sports club for the past 2 decades (people see it more as a community really) and a few older people/coaches who were prominent key figures there who helped me loads and I knew well have recently died within teh space of several months.

It used to be my place to go/socialise but now when I go all I can think about was how good it was back in the day and everything I do reminds me of those who died and what they taught me. Rather than take the good from this though all I feel is low mood.

I put a relaxing scenery on my TV earlier to try to wind down. It was lovely with a dark sea and moon however for some reason (no idea why) it reminded me of how I will be alone when my parents die. I imagined being in the scene all alone pining for them.

These might be poor examples but my point is I turn everything into a negative. I think what doesn’t help is I have always had a ‘prepare for the worst’ mindset where I feel I have to imagine a worse case scenario and plan/prepare for it before I feel settled (this applies to holidays, health, any situation).

Is anyone else similar and what is a good strategy to have a healthier mindset?

Anxiety is present in several of my family members. Others are not effected. A dodgy gene? Who knows. Fear of the future, nostalgia for the past are very common, especially these days when the media have been encouraging fear intentionally.
Strategy! Let the universe take care of you and everything. Let be, what will be, you cannot control fate. Trust in a deity if you have beliefs.
Positive affirmation. See the good in things. Avoid the news if possible.

Thanks, yes maybe anxiety is caused by genes or it could be that the family is exposed to similar environment/culture

I agree about the news when you think about it all day our brains are being rammed by information from all over the world
