Any idea whats causing this or an experience of something similar!?

One side only (L)

Not painful as such but uncomfortable to lie on - pain points are flank, inner thigh and back of thigh.

Scanty history but it sounds like shingles.
When the rash appears, contact your GP.

Thanks i will keep an eye

I did consider shingles but no other symptoms as yet.
My immediate reaction was 'Shingles'.
Have you had the vaccination against it?
I had Shingles for the 1st time when I was 68. The pain started before the emergence of a (fairly mild for Shingles)rash on my shoulder.
Then I started to feel ill, really ill, a few days later.
Jabbing pains with nothing to see?
So I had the vaccination when I was 70. I succumbed to Shingles again this March (huge stress due to husband's health) but much milder. Still v.v. painful area (other shoulder) but no real rash and feeling off-colour rather than 'flu-ey'.

That's my best bet anyway.

I'm surprised, jourdain, I thought the shingles vaccine was for life.
So did I jno! I was sadly disabused. I was vaccinated a couple of days after my 70th birthday. I am now 73.

I definitely had contracted Shingles - but it was a much, much milder version than the full-blown illness which I had at first, which was agonising, and which laid me out completely for about 2 months.

I was always at the surgery at the time (health crisis with Mr.J2, which wore me out) and it was his nurse who called in the nurse practitioner and worked out what I 'd got. Then they told me that the vaccine didn't protect completely.

Never mind. If you haven't been vaccinated please do so as soon as you can. I kept going, uncomfortably, through the second attack, which was impossible first time.
The shingles jab is for life, you don’t get another one.
It doesn’t profess to stop you from getting shingles, but makes it less severe and shorter lasting, which is exactly what happened to jourdain.
A bit like the flu jab or the Covid jab, won’t stop you getting it but will make it a milder dose.
