Are Slings Still Provided In Uk?

I know it used to be standard practice when I lived in the UK.
It doesn't seem to be the case in Spain! They have to buy them from chemists!

Portugal crepe bandage given in hospital then off to the chemist to buy a sling

Or they can be bought from Amazon, or lots of other places. I am somewhat disappointed with UK chemists OTC costs, they are much higher than other outlets which is fine, we have the freedom to shop where we want - with the exception of paracetamol and ibuprofen which can only be bought in very small quantities outside of pharmacies.

When I broke my wrist last year I wasn't given a sling. Was explained that slings kept your arm in one position and your arm could stiffen in that position. They would rather your arm hung down and you moved it.

I've had several accidents in UK, and was always given a cotton triangular arm sling, which did the job while my arm was healing, never felt the need to buy one!
Whereas in Spain, they dont give you a sling, just some makeshift thin bandage.
Slings start at €11(£10)for something basic.

Most Larger First Aid boxes will hold Triangular bandages in them. Probably about £1.50p to replenish from Boots. You can make two or three different slings from them depending where you need the support. From broken collar bones to sprained wrists. One size fits all.

Well they are not expensive, so not a big deal if youhave to buy one in Spain. Hardly worth mentioning.

Yes if elevation is needed to reduce swelling , but we always suggested a large head scarf folded diagonally, looks nicer, and softer fabric is less likely to rub the back of the patient's neck

Surely if you can move your arm it will not mend.
