My Left Knee

This is a puzzle I hope someone can help with.

My knee is fine during the day, no problem bending, walking, climbing, lifting.

It's waking me up during the night - a very sharp pain that gets worse if I move my leg.  It wears off after 20 minutes or so.  It's not a cramp type pain, it feels as if it is going to crack. Even the bedding feels too heavy.

It doesn't get hot or look red.

Any ideas?

Cartilage issues ?

I'll read in to that, thanks

This may sound very strange, but have you been wearing some new shoes? In the summer I kept getting woken up with a sharp pain in my ankle. It was agonising. I had started to wear some new sandals so  changed back to my normal shoes. The pain went. Coincidence?

Question Author

I haven't, helly, but thanks for the suggestion.  You've reminded me of the time I had a very painful sore on the bottom of my foot. It was days before I realised I'd stood on a drawing pin and it was poking through the sole of my shoe 😂

It's a very common occurrence. When laying still in bed at night, the joints/muscles tighten up and even the duvet or sheets will feel heavier. Even turning in bed can cause an "ouch"in the knee.

Cortisol levels are lower at night.

Thanks, Floko

Barry, if you think it's happening too often, see if your GP will send you for an xray.

Question Author

Will do, Barsel.

You should make a film about it.  It has a catchy title. 😁

could be a hip-op musical, yes

It could be the position your knee is in when your sleeping.

Daniel Day Lewis.

Hellywelly - exact same thing happened to my cousin some years back - the pain in her knee was excruciating that she was crying and she is not a cryer.  She had been wearing new Sketchers - got rid of them and got rid of pain.  A new woman.

A prequel or a sequel, that is the question ...

Try Ibuprofen capsules, the 12-hour variety. Take one (with a glass of water) at about 0800 hrs. and another at about 2000 hrs. They have helped me with my arthritis.

Question Author

Thanks, bookbinder

bookbinder, it isn't a good idea to suggest to someone that they take  Ibuprofen unless you are that person's doctor.

It doesn't agree with everyone.

Barsel, I'm sure that barry1010 is mature enough to realise that.

It's all the B's this afternoon - Barsel, Bookbinder & Barry! lol.

Question Author

Thanks for the link, Buen - it must be growing pains 😁

I appreciate every comment and suggestion, much to think about as usual.
