?
Answers
the two have different dose curves ( take it from me they do) Paracet every four hours , ibuprof every six.
DOI - my brother in law had jaw pain after a cancer op. I suggested the above. and ofcourse rang for progress later. 'Oh' he said, "I looked up the internet and your doses seemed te''ble high so I took only half"
Did it work ?
Nope
The choice is yours
sandyRoe, if you can't speak to a doctor please speak to a pharmacist and tell him what you're already taking.
You can get low codeine dose co-codamol from a pharmacy, the higher dosages have to be prescribed. For some, it can cause constipation & you can't take paracetamol with them, though you can intersperse with ibuprofen. In any case, it shouldn't be taken for more than a couple of days without seeing/speaking to your doctor - you should preferably do that first.

peter, your doses ARE rather on the high side, and while it's probably ok short term, i wouldnt take those unprescribed doses for more than a couple of days.
I am rather like you though in that i would happily self-medicate with 600mg ibuprofen in a single dose or 6g of paracetamol in a 24 hr period, but i'd be incredibly wary of advising someone else to.
I have prescription Co-codamol (30 - 50 ) for back pain when needed.
When screaming in pain, a couple of days after hip repair, I took hosp. decreed 500 paracetamol, codeine every 4 hours - but I ended up taking Ibuprofen in-between. The nurses ticked me off a few days later - but I don't and didn't, care. They should give decent pain relief.
Hi beddie - Squad used to throw Ibuprofen around in mega quantities. I made no mention of the loading dose of paraceamol ( 40 mg.kg) yes eight tablets once for loading.
6g
and we read: Potential toxicity should be assessed and a toxicologist consulted when: >200 mg/kg (or 10 g) ingested over a 24 hour period. >150 mg/kg/day (or 6 g) ingested over a 48 hour period. >100 mg/kg/day ingested over a 72 hour period.
I am gonna mention Lansop again, as I think it is important
It helped PP. It really is barbaric, the way you are chucked out here, 36 hrs. after surgery (no drains so your leg swells HUGELY) and the pain is horrible. It is unnecessary - I have had 2 hip replacements in France and I certainly had no pain like this, a bit of discomfort is as high as I would go.
I am not scared of further surgery - I wasn't before. They got it wrong and left me lame as well. :(
