I am supposed to see one every three months.  I had to cancel an appointment and didn't get a letter for a follow-up one.  So I never got back in touch.

The ones that I have seen have been easy to talk to but, apart from drugging me up to my eyeballs, didn't actually do much for me.

If you see one it may be that they will refer you to a psychologist.  They listen to you, ask questions about your past and give ideas on how you can change your behaviour.

Whatever you do I wish you well.

Useless.  Totally useless.  When my beloved youngest son died and my doctor sent me to see a Psychiatrist all she kept saying was, "but he's dead, he's dead".  How is that supposed to make me feel better? I walked out.

this I am afraid was standard, and might have changed. It was straightforward to show that the set of patients who failed/cancelled had a higher mortality -  ( included those about to commit suicide)

try it and see

^^

PP, you are such a cheerful fellow.😂

Ladybirder,

I'm half cut at the mo, but your post made me cry! What planet are these people on? Ive had numerous experiences with these psychos and each and everyone of them seem to be emotionless robots. Its weird!

Pretty much the same here wolf.

To the point that I couldnt function (To the point that I started a relationship and wanted sex 😂... more chance of playing snooker with a piece of rope. ) anti depressants are notorious for making men frustrated, lol.

Ladybirder,

I agree with Nailedit.  You went looking for help and his reaction was cold and uncaring.

💜💜

One my wife saw was a bully to her. I had a word with him and he turned into a kitten. Incidentally, she actually had a hormone deficiency that he completely missed, ascribing her condition to some sort of mental disorder.

all long ago now.

I worked for DWP (until 2004) and I was going into work dosed up on anti-psychotics.

I was a zombie.  I have no idea how I managed to do any work.  Scary!😂

Ive spoke many times on AB about psychiatrist, and how about each and every time that ive had to engage with them that they have invariably been total fruitcakes.

Mad as a bag of ***, the lot of them.

Nailedit I've just seen your 20.34 post and I was going to say sorry I made you cry.  You have obviously understood how SHE made me feel, so I won't.  She was stone cold, not someone I would expect to see in such a job.  I am moved that you cried, bless you.  He has been gone 30 years now and next year will make it 31 when he will have been dead for as long as he was alive.  I'm looking at his photo on my table and oh boy was he gorgeous;-)). All the girls used to give him the eye when we were out together.

Sorry I've gone rather off topic.

Ladybirder, this may only be a pixelated website but human emotions/compassion can come through nevertheless!

And boy! Did they come through with your post...

Feel ur suffering.

Pity the paid for psycho NHS shrinks cant .

Mad as a box of frogs the lot of them.

Ive got so many stories of these idiots...

Once had a cell mate whilst in prison called to to see the prison shrink.

He was called out of the cell for an assessment? (Yeah right))

He was called out by the prison shrink to eat it as it was orange.

He told the shrink to eat it himself if he peeled it..again, you ccouldnt make  could this *** up...

Shore on the shore

Many years ago...when I was in my 20s. Not sure if they were actual psychiatrists or psychologists. At the time I was experiencing anxiety and panic attacks. The first guy was someone my sister recommended as she also had panic disorder. His treatment was valium. I felt no connection with him.

A few years later a saw a second doctor. He was far more approachable and easy to talk to. No automatic prescribing of drugs...in fact none at all.

Edit...the above was in NY.

Please accept a hug from me LB...there is no excuse for that kind of treatment.

I feel fortunate that at least the second doctor I saw was kind and sympathetic while guiding me in learning to cope with and understand the fear that had me in its clutches.

Thank you Pasta. xx
