Sandy I phone my doctor and when the receptionists answer I ask THEM to ask her for a presciption for me which they do.  The prescription gets sent to Chemist4U and then medication is delivered straight to me.  May be different where you are of course.

Many surgeries have an online triage service now. I have just tried my surgery's online triage system as you can't ring to book appointments.

I was expecting to have to wait a week or two for an appointment.

But the process seems effective. I had some question boxes to fill in and submit a photo* (*relevant for my condition but not yours).  Within 2 hours I received a text with a diagnosis and details of a prescription which had been sent to my pharmacy, and a note saying it should clear in 1-2 weeks but come back if it doesn't.

Maybe your surgery has a similar service. Maybe it's even an AI bot!

I doubt any cough medicine actually works. In my experience you take it, it does next to nothing, but your family then get at you saying that you have no need to cough now as you've taken something for it; so you become more desperate to stiffle it.

 

As for chills & sweating, sounds like a touch of flu maybe. Yeah there is stuff for that but it's been far too long since I needed it to recommend anything. You need to ask a pharmacist; preferably one that can deliver.
