All the big powers want to see the collapse of all the other big powers, so they can be top dog. I'd rather be part of a European union than an overseas territory belonging to USA, China or Russia.
Bearing in mind the state of the USA at the moment, the only significant democratic part of the planet might soon be Europe.
Europe needs to realise that the continent is comprised of a number of nations that are able to form an alliance, it isn't acceptable to try to force it into a single federal block.
However any bloc that wants to be doing the morally right things and treating their citizens well, are likely to be disadvantaged compared to a subservient abused people doing whatever their tyranical head of state demands. Even more so if the bloc has citizens in it that would like to see it fall and be overwhelmed by their preferred inferior culture.
