Trump despises the EU and says he intends to impose restrictive tariffs on them, but having dangled the carrot of a lucrative trade deal before Mr Starmer, do you think part of any agreement will have to include a commitment from Starmer to stop cosying up to Europe?  Will Mr Trump attempt to dissuade him from forging closer ties to the EU?

For some reason Starmer feels that he is obligated to rejoin the EU. Also he continually makes some stupid mistakes and bad decisions. A slow car crash, but, of course it's not his fault.

Besides hasn't it often been suggested that the UK provides a go-between for both ? Or was that just rumour ?

All the big powers seem to want to see the collapse of Europe as a strong entity. All the big powers want to see the collapse of all the other big powers, so they can be top dog. I'd rather be part of a European union than an overseas territory belonging to USA, China or Russia.

Bearing in mind the state of the USA at the moment, the only significant democratic part of the planet might soon be Europe.

Europe needs to realise that the continent is comprised of a number of nations that are able to form an alliance, it isn't acceptable to try to force it into a single federal block.

 

However any bloc that wants to be doing the morally right things and treating their citizens well, are likely to be disadvantaged compared to a subservient abused people doing whatever their tyranical head of state demands. Even more so if the bloc has citizens in it that would like to see it fall and be overwhelmed by their preferred inferior culture.
