.... and the same to you Sandy ☘

Why are people so keen to celebrate St Patricks Day and completely ignore St. Georges Day on 23 April?

Probably because England has never been colonised or ceded to another country, we don't need to reinforce the fact that we have our own national identity.

False assumption Gramps.

It's always celebrated on AB 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Gramps, simple we don''t have a 4x2 on each shoulder we know we are the best there has ever been or ever will be. We don't need a crutch to sate our insecurities. 80% of GB we are the powerhouse of most of the progress of the world, the largest empire there has ever been twice the size of the second largest. The world by it's very nature celebrates England every day.

Happy paddies day!

Colonised? 1066 and all that. Romans, Saxons, etc.

Happy St Patrick's Day to all Irish ABers.  St Patrick had an interesting life, born in England and captured by Irish pirates.

BARRY, what about the Roman invasion?

Not in living history, david, we don't have a chip on our shoulder about it.

I'm not deaf, Corby.  No need to shout when calling me

...I told my two sons early on that they will get a lot of anger and attitude from the Welsh, Scots and Irish. It's because they realised that just a few miles, just a tiny geographic anomoly and they could have been English. Forgive them if they lash out that kind of disappointment is painful.

09:03, oh dear! William was from Birttany, ie British, in those days half of France was British. He invaded because following the death of Edward the confessor King Harold was appointed by a committee (the witangemot). William had a valid claim, that was more of a civil war really.

"I'm not deaf, Corby.  No need to shout when calling me " - I don't get it either.

Stop the argy-bargy ....  this is supposed to be a HAPPY thread. 😊

I have used capitals for names to draw attention to them and have done so for years.

and the rest of the day to yerself to be sure

And top o' the morning to you too Sandy.  Never forget St Patrick's day as it's my youngest grandson's birthday and he's 17 today.  Wish I was in Dublin at the moment.

I've been to Dublin for St Patrick's Day and had a prime view of the parade from our hotel room.  Perfect!

Happy St Patrick's Day to all involved 😊
