Does anyone have any tips for enhancing your chances of getting pregnant? My hubby and I have been trying for over two years but to no avail. Our doctor will not refer us for tests or anything as he says 'these things take time'. How long should we try before we start getting really worried? x

It did eventually happen - but after I had tests (D & C) and my husband had a sperm test. My doctor told us to go away on holiday, get drunk and enjoy love making !! Just relax and good luck.

Your doctor has no right not to refer you for further tests, change your doctor pronto.

There could be any number of reasons for you not getting pregnant, which includes, like Denise S. says not being relaxed about it. Please change your doctor of be more pushy for him to refer you and your partner for tests.

Good luck x

I agree with [Dakota] it would very helpful if your Doctor could be persuaded to refer you both for further investigation. If after you respective tests are concluded and all is well (which I hope will be the case) then follow Denise S's advise to the letter!!! and good luck to you both.

If you want to speed things up a bit, and you have the wherewithall, it might be worth considering going Privately, at least to be investigated,It can sometimes take a while for the poor old NHS to offer an app. for such tests.

I assume you are using an ovulation kit or something ... and I am sure you know all about taking your temperature each day and that it dips slightly and then rises a little, have you tried keeping a chart of that ??? The minute it dips and for the next few days have plenty of sex and even though this is not remotely significant stay still afterwards and put your legs in the air for about five minutes (very undignified but who cares). I agree with those who say you should have some tests, after all if they are all negative then no harm done, and if there is a problem then you do not want to waste time when you could have been doing something.
er .. scientific I meant !

if you have been trying for over two years that is long enough to warrant further investigations. Go back to your GP. I suppose giving your GP the benefit of the doubt, he is trying to not label you with a problem to help you keep calm and not stressed,. so more likely to conceive.

You are obviously already worried as you mentioned, so not having any investigations will probably worry you more. But dont stop trying and have sex when you really feel like it, which usually indicates when you are more fertile. Buy your man boxers and dont let him wear tight trousers.

Hi Danni. I have no tips about getting pregnant but I used to work as a receptionist in the obs and gynae department of a hospital. The fertility clinic was fully bookd for two years in advance so I really would suggest getting that appointment in asap. After two years of trying for a baby, I have no idea why your doctor won't refer you. Most of the ladies on our waiting list would have a baby before even getting their first appointment so please give your doc some pressure on this matter!
