I know I couldn't. As for the cups - I have too been wondering if they are any good, but never quite got the courage to try it! Have you looked at www.mooncup.co.uk . Some of the bigger Boots sell them now apparently which is more appealing to me than buying it online...
I use a mooncup and it is the best 20 quid I have ever spent. I have never been able to use tampons for the leaking and discomfort and also as I am at a high risk of TSS. I can't bear pads as frankly, I find them revolting.
I have been using a mooncup for about 4 months and the benefits have been amazing. Reliable 100% during the day and only one tiny leak at night, but that was when I first started using it, now I have 'the knack' it never leaks. Enviromentally friendly, you can take it out for the day and don't have to worry about being within a short distance of the loo, you can swim, go to the gym, go on holiday and you barely notice you are having your period. You can still wear all your favourite clothes. I haven't had any thrush or cystitis from using one...honestly, I can not stress how good they are.....They last for about 20 years too so the saving you make from not buying tampax/always ultra is cool too. Instead of buying sanitary towels, I go for a manicure instead with the savings and feel better at once at the worst time of the month!
Do it, get one and you won't look back, I guarentee it.

i have a mooncup and its great. I rarely use it during the day if i'm going out as if you have to use a public loo, some people are a bit funny about you rinsing it out under the sink. They are very confortable and once you are used to it, you'll wonder why you haven;t had one for years.
I posted a Q some time ago championing the mooncup - see it here, http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Body-and-Soul/Question136199.html
I completely agree with the fact that sanitary protection should be free cos you can be damn sure if men had periods they'd be free. Or at least they should be for people on low income the way prescriptions are. I mean, we dont choose to have periods so why should we have to pay for them? If you spend approx 5 a month on sanitary protection, in your lifetime you'll spend about 2,500. A menstrual cup costs around 30 and lasts for 10 years so personally I think they are the way forward and should be available on the NHS. Not to mention the fact that they're better for the environment and more hygenic than any other form of protection.
