There's a girl I really like who was on my course at university. I genuinely feel that she likes me as well, we don't know each other very well as she was briefly seeing my flatmate a while ago, but I only met her twice in passing. She still lives in the same town as me, and I have seen her occasionally. I really do want to ask her out, but I've got no means of contacting her unless I see her out at random, which might not be for months.

She is listed in FriendsReunited, but I can't help but thinking that sending an unsolicited email to someone I didn't go to school with might come across as a bit..weird.

Any ideas as to how I should go about it, if at all?

isn't she listed under your Uni too Andy? If so, then where's the problem, after all, you were on the same course, and do know her. Check the uni listings and go for it. Faint heart never won fair lady, and all that krapp. Even if she's not listed under your uni, I'd mail her anyway as a) you know her b) you like her c) you'll only come across as weird if you send a weird e-mail. if you're honest and friendly and flatter her a little (dont' over do it) you'll probably get a reply, and perhaps a date. Just don't get drunk before you e-mail her. Good luck.
Short answer for your dilema, GO FOR IT!!!!!! What have you got to lose. If you hardly see her then you have nothing to lose!!!!! Good Luck!!!!
I wouldn't want to receive an e-mail from someone I didn't know, especially if they had been seeking me out on a site like Friends Reunited. It's one thing to receive an e-mail from an old school friend, but from a virtual stranger- spooky! It would give me the impression I was being checked up on and my first thought would be 'potential stalker', not romantic sweetie.
If you really like this girl, why not wait until you see her again, or start attending Uni functions she is likely to attend.
Just realised you are not still at Uni. Doesn't change my opinion though.
Go for it and send her an e-mail. Just make the first one short and brief (dont suggest meeting up at all in your first e-mail) and if she responds in a chatty way, youll know she could be interested.
Miss Zippy said it right. A short, innocuous email without any mention of meeting up is okay. It's up to her then.
