I keep asking my hairdresser to colour my hair a red shade which she does but after only a couple of washes the red seems to fade even though its a permanent colour, I've asked her about it but she says red always fades, has anyone else had this problem.

Red does fade quicker but I have mine dyed with Semi-perm colour and I find that it holds pretty well. I use Aussie colour mate shampoo, or the Paul Mitchell colour shampoo.

Good thing with Semis is that they are designed to fade so its a more natural looking progression.

I have blonde and coppery higlights in my hair and the hairdresser said they would fade and sure enough there gone strange isn't it as the blonde is half way down my head hahaha
Do you use the same shampoo and conditioner each time you wash your hair? My hair dresser told me once that I should stick to one brand and the colour would hold better.

Thanks everyone for your replies now I know its not just my hair they disappear on. Thanks irisred I will try those shampoos you mentioned. Ta.
try clairol hydrience .. shade .. amber sunrise you can get it in superdrug its a really good red colour and it holds well..and use a shampoo for red hair with it...as some shampoos strip colour...sun is another culprit...

I was born with copper hair and now I'm a dark blonde naturally, and red won't stay in my hair! it's so annoying as I really like it, It looks fab when it's done, but yes, basically lasts two weeks. Dark colours won't stay either.

I've given up now, my hair wants to be blonde, let it be blonde, so I just go for highlights in different blondes.
