The DVLA won't stop you driving just because you are depressed. There must be more to it. Have they written to your doctor for a medical report? if so what has he/she said about you?
They will stop you driving if you have sleep apnoea - because you can fall asleep at the wheel. Perhaps its to do with your sleeplessness rather than depression?

Don't tell doc or DVLA you are sleep deprived!

I suffer with Sleep Apnoea - stop breathing during night, sleep, so brain wakes me from REM as lungs wretch for breath which all comes out as one hell of a snore!

Sleep Apnoea is a DVLA notifiable condition, I am being treated so allowed to drive, if your doc spills the beans you'll be on a 12 to 18 month waiting list for a 'Sleep Study' that will take 6 to 8 weeks to access before you back for another sleep study plus 6 to 8 weeks to assess and then may be a CPAP mask and pump by the bed, the mask will look hideous but if you have been missing out on sleep, you'll love it.

Once you are listed with Sleep Apnoea you are listed for life - promise!

LoanArranger - this is not good advice. There are very good reasons for people being prevented from driving with this condition. Its for their own safety and the safety of other road users.

yeah loan arranger...because they just do it for spite don't they? certainly not safety of yourself and others or anything...

maxhay - go back to your docs and find out - who even mentioned sleep apnoea?

insomnia is not the same thing, though being too tired is not a good state to drive in.

have you tried the herbal remedies?

i find Phenergan is very good - its an antihistamine that is used for insomnia too.

If you are trying to get it back then there must be a good reason why it was taken away from you in the first place.

rite, I lost my licence due o drink drivin, went on a course to get it back, got my licence back, then dvla checked with my docs. the girls in the docs office filled in the form to state that i was alcohol dependent! My new doc wrote to dvla stated that 5 years ago I had a binge drinkin problem, that I was never dependent! She did liver tests which proves I do not drink (haven't any for over a year!) doc is fuming that dvla have ignored her letter as she states I am more than fit to drive and thinks its disgraceful! She agreed yesterday I am stressed, not depressed due to dvla and that is stopping me sleeping! dvla now want me to have a full medical 150 miles from where I live and state if my liver function is not normal they will not let me drive for another year. I have taken loads of herbal stuff which my doc told me to stop to they can affect liver function! She is gona do blood tests b4 I have the medical, she not allowed to do it cos dvla says she's biased!! Please be nice to me, cos is this mental or wot, how many people are drivin in this country without a licence! Two years they haven't let me have mine! Doc says she's always reporting people on drugs and dvla do nothin! feelin very hard dun by here, seems to be a vendetta!!!!!
