Instead of walking round constantly trying to smallow all that slime in your throat have a glass of water with you. Even better if you add lemon to it. Some would disagree whether the water should be cold or warm, but I swear by cold water to ease that soreness, still it might be wrong for others (ask your GP). That's why they give you ice-cream after the tonsillitis op, cold soothes it. In the evening, warm milk with honey. Not only is honey great against colds and such but it also coats your throat and gives you some breathing time.
God, there are so many different things you can use or do, but most of them concentrate on loads of fluid; things to boost your immunity such as garlic, onions, honey, etc; gargling with either salty water, vinegar solutions etc (which is basically the same thing as drinking as it prevents the infection spreading). Propolis, Marshmallow liquid (don't confuse with sweets).
Oooo, and if you have cough - chocolate, it contains a chemical which suppresses coughs. The only problem is it doesn't last long, so you'll need plenty of it ;0)
Hope you get well soon.
Take care.

Gargle with salt water. Pour loads of salt into boiling water, add some cold water so as not to burn yourself! Wait for it to go colder and then gargle, and spit. Do this 6 times, once an hour. Do not drink water to take the taste away!! The salt will kill the infection.
Antibiotics only work on a certain type of infection- bacterial. If it is a viral infection you have, they will do nothing. I never take anything for tonsillitis.
Maybe my doctor was sadistic but I recall being told to eat dry toast as this would scrape the pus off my tonsils and would immediately reduce the inflammation!
Anyone else ever been told this??
Incidentally, I used to get tonsilitis every couple of months so maybe she was trying to perform a DIY tonsilectomy lol!
My kids had tonsellitis for months as they kept passing back and forwards.
I eventually stopped the antibiotics as they had built an immunity to them and like alijangra gave them dry toast and crisps and that long with the rest of the advice you have been given did the trick.
I am now pleased to say that my son is 21 and hasnt been to the doctor so therefore hasnt had anti's for 14 years. My daughter at 17 has had her first lot just recently for a nasty cough which wouldnt shift and was a chest infection.Same goes for her as well.
Anti's definately have a time and place but the advice you have been given - I personally would go along with.Build up your own immune system.
Hope you feel better soon and have some Haggen Daas:)
