I have self diagnosed myself with gingivitus. What is the best way around it? I know that it includes mouthwash everytime you brush and flossing, anything else I should do or avoid. Thanks

Some mouth washes shouldn't be used regularly as they do more harm than good. As gingivitus is caused by bacteria getting into the gums you need to go along to your dentist to get your teeth cleaned regularly as bacteria clings to tartar no matter what you do.

I would definitely see the dentist if I were you, just to make sure that it is gingivitis.

In the meantime, Corsodyl mouthwash is usually recommended for gingivitis. You can buy it from dental surgeries, chemists and most supermarkets.

...And brush very gently, with a soft/sensitive toothbrush!
Corsadyl really works, but it stains you teeth if used too frequently (well it does mine!!).
Make sure that you brush throughly along the gum line - you can buy special brushes that are like very tiny bottle brushes, use them for the gaps inbetween the teeth and gums using a circular motion. The best thing is to book an appointment with your dental hygenist who will get rid of any tartar and also advise you as to the best method of looking after them/brushing them etc. If you are a smoker, this can affect your oral health, as can your diet .
buy some of the interdnetal brushes, I use the conical ones as I have very tightly packed teeth (and can't even use floss!!) yet enough gap at the base. use gently. These help get rid of anything between teeth. Then use Peroxydyl mouthwash. This contains a small amount of hydrogen peroxide and will kill anything!! The old fashioned treatment for gingivitus is using a dilute (50% 30v w solution) and even though this is quite dear in comparrison to other mouthwashes it not only does the job but is less damaging than the HP. But you really should try and see a dentist. If you are one of those wiht a phobia if you are near a teaching dental hospital try and go there.
You MUST keep brushing the bad areas otherwise it will get worse. I made the mistake of easing off the affected areas when I got it (when I was pregnant) and eventually the dentist scraped all the inside of my gums out - it did the trick but it was gruesome, looked like I'd rinsed my mouth out with blood.

Corsodyl is good to use. When I had to use it I changed from the mouthwash to the gel as swirling the wash made me lose all sense of taste. You should treat yourself to a new t.brush to use with the gel ( and only the gel ) as some of the ingredients in it can be rendered inactive by the ingredients in toothpastes.

If you are going the States buy some here and take it with you as this is a prescription item over there. ( I know, I know the stuff I've bought from the store, and this needs a script!!!!! )
