I've seen a lot of hype about no-smoking day, however what would happen if everyone adhered to this?

There would be a huge shortfall in taxes the government receives, and even the money saved on the health service would not put a huge dent in the taxes from ciggies.

I agree that smokers do contribute quite a lot to the chancellor, but they wouldn't miss it one jot, if smoking stipped tomorrow, they'd just raise taxes on something else, or inveny a new one.

That would be popular with all of the non-smokers.

I'm not sure what the tax revenue is for cigs, but I would guess huge...it must be at least 4 quid a packet.

Perhaps people should be thankful of the contribution smokers make to Gordon.

It would make no difference, they would smoke more tomorrow and make up the difference..

It has been proved that if everyone in the UK did not put petrol in their cars just for one day it would bankrupt the country, perhaps the same would happen with smoking!

I'm just trying to figure out if you are taking the pi55 toureman. Sam as smoking not putting petrol in the car for a day would be quickly recouped the next day.

Basically if theres no money for them from the smokers they're gonna get it another way and they don't care how cos we will be paying (over the odds as usual)
the people who moan on about smokers, will soon be moaning big time when there r no smokers to fund taxes etc, and see a huge increse taken out of their wages for tax, as they say be careful for what u wish for.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
