I posed this question at the end of another question I had, the response from 3 people was No, definately not, and it seemed to rile a few people up... so please be honest in your answers...

If your boyfriend or girlfriend accidently left her diary out or open on the kitchen table and went away for a weekend, how many would read it?

By the way, Im not talking about friends diaries... because in all honesty I wouldnt have an interest in them - we confide in eachother anyway... im talking Boyfriends/Girlfriends only!

I'd like to say that I wouldn't, but it would be too much of a temptation. The thing is if you read something you don't like, what do you do? You can't let on that you have read it so you have to keep it to yourself and wish you hadn't read it.

I wouldn't. I think privacy and trust are linked in an intimate relationship.

That said, I don't like personal diaries, having seen the dadmage they can do!

my boyfriend once read my diary and I was annoyed. but when he explained that he believed we should have no secrets and that everything in my diary should be known to him already, I had a change of heart because I knew that it was true - if what I wanted was a fully integrated relationship (heart/mind/soul) it wouldn't bother me. what romatics we were! now that i'm married (to another person!) I still wouldn't mind. but i think my husband would not be able to handle my thoughts especially in regards to him. diaries are for ranting and through writing, they help you become objective in relation to your 'problems' and my husband cannot be objective when it comes to himself.

So, really it all depends on the individual doing the reading, I suppose!

Oh, absolutely! I'd love to be the kind of person that could be tempted but walk past, but I just know I would read the whole thing! Yes, I'm terrible and yes, I'd hate it if it were done to me.

My ex boyfriend was a bit of a snoop, so when he used to come and stay, I'd hide mine in the loft (in my room) so I could have a shower knowing I wasn't going to be interrogated when I came out!

Never, no way. But then my bloke would never write a diary. but I trust my bloke never to look at mine either :-)

Nope. I'd agree with Andy on both counts.

The whole point of a diary is to record personal thoughts. If that person wanted you to know these thoughts they would have told you. ergo, if they haven't told you they don't want you to know. (Unless of course, they've accidentally-on-purpose left the diary out for you to find in which case you are so gonna regret looking...)

What is sometimes put in a diary is something we wouldn�t necessary mean to be hurtful but that the reader could find hurtful. Like say � He really peed me off today� May just be a day that everyone peed you off but he would read to much into it thinking he�d done something wrong. People that snoop have always got something niggling at the back of their mind. Like maybe you think someone is cheating just a mere mention of this girls name in a diary even if its �talked to --- today� would set you off. Its best just left alone. :-)

Although in my own diaries I don�t write EVERYTHING. I know a girl that was cheating on her boyfriend and put all about it in her diary, how dumb!! Her bloke read it and well they aint together anymore :-)

I like to think I would respect my man (& myself) enough not to read his diary. But if I did give in to temptation it would be to fish for compliments! :o)

I would definately read it !! as i am too inquisitive not to..i open all the post as well and any parcels that come even if they are not addressed to me..i dont suppose many people keep diarys anymore...

I keep them so when I'm gone my grandchildren will know exactly what I was like the good and the bad and maybe learn from my mistakes :-)

...no way...

...my mother read my diary when I was 17...and all hell broke loose....our relationship has never been the same since...I would never read anyones diary, boyfriends, daughter, friends...
