a friend of mine told me that she had a Indian head massage and was ill after it. She said her friend also felt that way to.

i am told that it must be because of certain points on the head are being stimulated and it can bring out certain toxins, therefore making you ill.

has anybody suffered from the same effects after a Indian Head Massage?

thanks in advance

I've had a couple of Indian Head Massages & have never experienced any problems afterwards. They are so wonderful too!

Mowbray, I felt disorientated after having an IHM. The practioner told me it was normal as toxins were being flushed out of my system. I also had a course of reflexology,bliss but after each session the same feeling of disorientation. Its certainly not pleasant but it proves the therapy is working:-))

That's strange Mowbray & FINA. I can honestly say that my head tingled after both massages, but didn't feel anything untoward - just peace!

More research is needed here, acupuncture is known to make you dizzy for a few minutes afterwards quite often (I was warned first). Lymphatic drainage has also made a friend ill afterwards, which is only a form of body massage.

I had a head massage once with no bad effects, but if it does happen regularly doctors need to discover what is being released, as it relaxes the muscles and allows hidden physical patterns to be released. Therefore if ill afterwards it is possible there was an underlying illness you were surpressing, and forced relaxation will break any unconscious holding mechanisms.

I do work in healing so am fairly familiar with many of these phenomena.

Hi smudge, I too found both therapies relaxing especially the reflexology aarrhhhh but the feelings of being "On another planet" shall we say were as I was told all part of the treatment. Saying that I would certainly have another course of reflexology and another IHM:-))

That was interesting David.

I could just do with another IHM too FINA! ;o}

I have had one IHM and I had an absolutely thumping headache afterwards, the leaflet I was given explained this was due to toxin release as mentioned in previous answers.

The practioner also mentioned that she had to be very careful because I had an unusually soft scalp, and asked me whether it was due to a medical problem! I was really taken aback as I have never been aware of a problem with my scalp! Has anyone else ever been told anything like this?

Hi Mowbray

Your therapist should explain to you that feelings of dizziness, nausea, tiredness, headaches and even fainting are all what are known as "Contra-actions" to the treatment. After treatment, you should have been advised to relax, drink plenty of water, no alcohol or caffiene and eat lightly. If you feel tired after a treatment, then sleep if you feel like you need it. As others have said, IHM can release toxins and throw your body out of kilter some what, but stick with the treatments and you'll find they have a great effect on your whole well-being!
