hairy chest situation

i am a 26 year old female farmer and have recently developed hairs on my chest. has anyone else experienced this and should i shave them?? i needn some advice as i am scared of seeing my doctor. the hair is spreading to my nipples.hope someone can help

Hi durannie, Sorry to hear of your problem. I think a trip to the doctor may be a good idea. See a lady doctor if you can. It could be a hormonal problem. But please, dont shave them. Oh, and if its just nipple hair, I think a lot of women have that. Good luck.

why be scared of seeing your doctor? They're just the sort of people who are most likely to have seen this before - and to know what the answer is. If you're nervous about seeing a male doctor, you could always ask a nurse, or a female friend, to sit in. Minxie's advice is good.

someone i know had this problem it is due to hormones sometimes if you shave them more will grow and you would end up with a daily routine of shaving unwanted hair

It can happen after the menopause due to hormonal changes and is actually reasonably common. It would seem likely Although you are obviously too young for the menopause, I would think it's hormonal (which can also be caused by polycistic ovaries, as suggested by Joko). Your doctor will see this as a perfectly routine visit, so please don't be embarrassed. I am sure he/she will be able to help.

Don't suppose you've been handling any animal feed which has had extra hormones or other substances added to it which could have possibly be absorbed into your skin?

shaving does NOT make more hair grow, they just look thicker because the new growth has a flat end instead of tapering off
