To those who have never seen, suddenly gaining the ability to see can be immensely disturbing, as they probably wouldnt know what they are looking at - a condition called Visual Agnosia. The extent of depression would depend on the individual's ability to deal with this change in his perceptions and the type of support he receives.
I think they would be exhilirated by the thought of being able to see, do things they have always wished too; more than the actual experience of sight.
