One of my lower teeth jumps like mad whenever i drink something cold or let the cold air when i am out. Does this mean receding gums or i need a filling?

Told the dentist on many occasions, but he says there is no cavity or missing filling nor do I have excessively receeding gums. His best explanation is that a filling is close to a nerve and it, being metal, conducts the heat/cold to the nerve efficiently. Or it's the slight difference in expansion/contraction of metal vs tooth. All he could recommend was a/ 'sensitive' toothpaste (helps a bit) b/ a high-flouride mouthwash.
Go and see a dentist about it.
But you may just have to live with it.
