This is mainly for those who have reservations about the death penalty, although anyone who wants can answer if you so wish. Are there any circumstances in which you might advocate it?.

No
No. I think that the innocent children of this country should be put at greater risk of kidnap, rape and murder than take the risk that we might, mistakenly, execute some criminal with a record as long as your arm.
not too sure what u ment, english speak me not too good. but i think the death penalty should definately be brought back i was only talking to my work mate yesterday that it should be for certain cases, but i wouldnt like to get into those cercumstances cos i'll be here all day
I am amazed about the amount of people who bring drugs into the country and it is proved benond doubt that they are guilty, then they get away with a jail sentence. These people are mass killers and ruining peoples entire lives, not to mention the harm they bring to the UK. They are not just murdering one person they are killing lots that never get heard aboutand it is never mentioned to that extent either. That is where the death penalty should come in

It's quite obvious that the death penalty isn't a deterrant otherwise there would be no murders in America.

I have big problems with saying that someone should get the death sentance for killing a copper or a child over you or me. I don't know who pust a coppers life any higher than my sister or your mum or nan etc.

It's absolutely tragic when a child is murdered and it really tugs at my heart strings but is their life any more important than anyone else ???

Just my humble opinion.

Hard@at what about those who die after taking prescribed medicine? Do you also advocate a death penalty for the Dr who supplied the drugs & the pharmacy company for producing it?
Maybe the death penalty is not effective in the USA because of the long delay in carrying it out. If the murderers spend up to twenty-five years in prison they always harbour hopes that they will obtain a reprieve. No doubt in this country Huntley, Whiting and the rest believe that they will be released sometime in the future; a scenario that could be avoided by a rope.

I can't think of any circumstances when the death penalty should be carried out, but I'm sure there are plenty who disagree with me. As far as I am aware it doesn't prevent crime, and I would hope that other punishment would be enough.

If people are so sick or evil that there is any risk of re-offending, there should be no early release and in those cases a life sentence should mean just that.

How many people in America actually get executed. There seems to be a lot who are on death row for many years.

I think the group who have just been convicted of the rape and murder of that teenage girl, where her friend survived should be given the death penalty. Horific torture and murder.

Bring back the noose I say! On condition that all evidence is proven correctly. Why should cold blooded killers be allowed to live. An eye for an eye.

I might advocate it for paedophiles who steal a childs innocence. That would be the only circumstance I think I would support the death penalty.
Philby, I see your point. There are thousands of patients who are suffering and have even committed suicide due to prescribed drugs which have proved to be defective. GSK who manufactured Seroxat/Paxil failed to follow the testing rules, lied and cheated to the proffesional medicals worldwide. Thousands of GP's prescribed Seroxat and other ssri's blindly not knowing enough about them and the damage they do. Sadly even now there are Gp's who still dont know enough about ssri's. Maybe they should be sent on courses to learn more in order to make their patients lives easier wether the patients are on an ssri or withdrawing from one,not easy!!!

haysi06......i'm not having a go but what or who makes it more important to hang someone for taking a childs innocence over someone taking a 30 year olds innocence for example.

It should be all or nothing, we can't descriminate against people in this respect. I'm sure a son who has had his mum or nan murdered puts their importance just as high as a mum who has had her little daughter murdered.

Without bringing religion into it, yes, I would bring back the death penalty. If anyone killed, raped or sexually harmed any of my family or close friends, then no doubt I would want them to die. Its only right. These ******* get jailed and more and more they are getting re-released back into the community to reoffend. It doesnt work in America cos that whole countries culture is messed up, it woulde work here and would be the shock that criminals need. Just last week a young man was jailed for 15 years after killing another man just days after being released from prison. In the dock he said after being sentenced, "15 years? no problem" Do you think he would have been so smug if the judge had put his black cap on? And this person was guilty, no doubt. That could have been yours or my son/ brother/ father/ child that he so callously killed. Still dont think it should be brought back? Ask his victims family.

Do you not think that life.....and i mean life, behind bars doing nothing but hard labour with no priviliges (no tele, pool tables, own clothes etc etc) would be a better way to see people suffer.

But....i've never had any member of my family murdered so i really can't even begin to imagine what it would be like and what you'd feel for the murderer !!!

Absolutely not in any circumstance whatsoever that you could possibly suggest to me. Not if a person murdered every single member of my family and had sex with their corpses.
I think the death penalty should be brought back for the likes of those six fella's who kidnapped raped & tortured b4 killing that poor 16yr girl. or the sick tw@t who raped that little baby! hung drawn & quartered would be too good for them! My only gripe with the death penalty is that they are on death row for far too long.

In the sense of execution, the word is hanged, not hung.

Question Author

Thanks for you answers guy, a mixed bag, as it should be, I won't go into it to deeply, but as some of you know, from answers i've given to other posts, i'm an advocate for bringing the death penalty back, because I fully believe, and have done so for years, that whatever happens to other people, bring it to a personal level, and even though you can never feel the hurt of other people, try to imagine it it was your sister/mother/daughter, who had been raped and killed, and how you would react.

Having said that, I fully respect the views of others, and would never have a go at them for holding them. Vive La Difference, it'd be a boring world if we all held the same views.

I think the point is you have to prove beyond any doubt.

Prisons have TVs and pool tables (not been there but I watch Porridge & Bad Girls). Not exactly hard on hardened criminals.

If, for certain crimes, there was a death penalty then it may deter some people from committing that crime. A lot of thought would have to be put in to determine which crimes specifically should have the death sentence.
