Maternity laws - what are the details?

I understand the law around when I need to tell my employer etc but here's a nuance.... Can I tell my HR department and ask them NOT to tell my Manager? I want to inform the HR department so that it is on record and so I can take time for antenatal appointments but I dont want my boss to know until legally I have to..... help anyone?

If you are worried of adverse attitude from your Manager, you should discuss these worries with your HR Manager. Trust me, if you are pregnant the law is on your side.
