I understand the law around when I need to tell my employer etc but here's a nuance.... Can I tell my HR department and ask them NOT to tell my Manager? I want to inform the HR department so that it is on record and so I can take time for antenatal appointments but I dont want my boss to know until legally I have to..... help anyone?

Your HR Manager will explain to you that it is important that your Manager knows you are pregnant so as adjustments can be made to your work routine (If necessary). If you are worried of adverse attitude from your Manager, you should discuss these worries with your HR Manager. Trust me, if you are pregnant the law is on your side.

Thanks. I know the law is on my side, but my company is notoriously hard nosed.. and my boss is exactly the opposite of the kind of person that I want to talk to these things about. Anyway, I will bite the bullet and let them know.
You dont have to tell them untill a certain time, check with the dhss for more advice before playing your hand and congratulations. x
