coca -cola is known for making you burp(ooops pardon me) but i also find it is brilliant for clearing phelgm and catarrh- has anyone else experienced this?

we were on a tour out east and an elderly woman had terrible stomach pains and nausea, one of the other people asked a barman for some stale coke which was given to her. not immediately but within 15 mins or so she was ok. I'm not suggesting that it is a cure-all but in this instance it worked

Is commonly used in the NHS for unblocking clogged up naso-gastric tubes, so has it's uses.
