Am I getting the menopause?
3 Answers
I am a 42 and 1/2 yr old woman. I do not get PMT particularly but towards the end of my period, or anyhow after it has started, I get massive migraines with accompanying nausea. Last time it happened I was getting flashes of light which I gather goes with the migraines. It does not happen every single month but roughly once ever 3 or 4 months. Usually it lasts about 2-3 days but last time it lasted 7 whole days, during which time I could barely do anything and had to keep going back to bed. It is a scary thought that something so debilitating might be happening to me on a regular basis and for 7 days a month in the future.

Hgrove - exactly the same thing happened to me when I hit 40. My migraines are also hormonally related - coming at the beginning middle and end of my cycle.
You do not have to suffer - go to your GP - there are various drugs you can take to relieve or eradicate the symptoms - small dosage Pizotifen works for me but makes you hungry all the time!!
Good luck!!
This was happening to me a couple of years ago. I was taking the combination pill at the time and went to the doctor as the migraines were waking me up during the night. As it was happening during my pill free week, the doctor took me off the pill as she said it was the drop in levels of oestrogen causing the migraines and it was too risky for me to continue taking the pill. I've been fine since.
