holland and barrett do a medicine with a dropper called valerian you put a droppper full in a small amount of water and drink it 30 mins before bed it works very well.and you arnt feeling like crap when you wake up like you do with nytol and other sleep aids

Counting sheep never worked for me, but at some point I started finding names with A,B,C, D and so on...
First boys then girls, then just people I knew, then famous people...
Always three of each.

I usually was asleep before I got to M.

Some years ago I also tried some self-relaxation techniques, and they worked pretty good for a while.
Not really sure why I stopped.
I think I just sleep a lot better now than I used to 15 or 20 years ago.

stylinsam, i'm a shift worker so my sleep pattern is awful, However i was advised on hear some time back to use Lavender oil, A couple of drops on your pillow could well do the trick?

Saying that i'm old fashioned and also like ''Horlicks''

Ps, are we still friends after our disagreement the other day.

apart from the first answer try having a nice long hot relaxing bubblebath about 1/2 to 1 hour before your bed time
I'm total opposite, I cant stay awake :-) just have a long relaxing bath, lavender under your pillow, although I think it stinks, but may work for you :-)
avoid coffee or caffeine before you go to bed inc. fizzy drinks. Don't eat late at night, if you can avoid it. I have the same problem and doing this helped, big coffee drinker!

course we are still friends laurence im friends with evry1 xxxx

Warm bath before bed, use a lavender bubble bath

Lavender drops on pillow or even use a lavender room frangrance

Do not watch TV in bedroom.

If you find you cant get to sleep, get up go downstairs and read or something until you feel tired again and then try again. Repeat as required.

I agree with mrstrunchbul, valerian is fantastic. I use it when I am on nightshift to get to sleep through the day and you dont get any hangover effect.
I know what helps me sleep but better not go there on here!
dont lie awake worrying about it lol...clear your mind, read a book to tire your eyes, or nytol usually works

A few drops of lavender essential oil - on a tissue by the bed, on the pillow, duvet covers, whatever works for you. Or fresh or dired lavenderi n bunches or bags. I swear by it.

Apart from all the healthfood shop / chemists remedies, you could try to adopt a routine; a way of winding down before you go to bed, e.g., lower the lights, turn down the volume on the music / tv, maybe make a mug of cocoa, brush your teeth, take your face off, read a few pages of a book, make a diary entry...zzzzzz
Though I can fall asleep at the drop of a hat, my wife has had problems so my daughter bought her a machine from Argos this Christmas, it plays different restful sounds and dispenses fragrant aromas. Its made by wellcare and can be set to varying times. Hope youre a bit happier, youve never upset me

thanks for the ideas i will be definetly be trying them all out. the thing is some nights i have so much on my mind it preocupiies me so much that i cant get to sleep you no how it is.

its not that i cant go to sleep everynight so i dont want to take sleeping pills as i dont really need them every night but thankyou 4 your kind suggestionsxx

listening to jack johnson or reading works for me.. oh and watching the news, but that only works because i think its boring lol :)
buy rose quartz, sunstone ,smoky quartz, citrine ,amethyst these are good crystals to keep under your pillow, just make sure you cleanse them by running them under colid water and when in bed just put hand under pillow and hold them they work for me, but we all different.
I listen to my story tapes on in ear phones & also put a few drops of Lavender Oil on my pillow (which my husband bought me from Holland & Barrett) - it has a really nice fragrance & reminds me of my Mum.
As a completely last resort . . . lie on the edge of the bed - you will soon drop off!!!!!
