Hi all,

I have a tooth that is out of place (upper right of mouth) - it really sticks out and ruins my self confidence. I don't even want to smile or laugh sometimes because i'm so consious of it. Often people comment upon it, which kills my self-confidence further!

I'm in my early 20's so I don't really want to think about a brace - it's also too pricey for me! Anyway, I was hoping for some support; I really need to go to the dentist. I'm just so scared. I know it'll hurt. Also, does anyone know how much it'll cost to have it removed? And also, can they just replace it with a 'fake' one? Thanks for your help - this is killing me!

How about asking your dentist for a 'plate' brace that you just wear in bed? My friend has one and she wears it every night and has perfect teeth and no-one has to see her wear it. Plus because its only a plate one.. she can wear it during the day too. :o)

Hiya Yummy,

I can fully empathise will how you might feel about the way your teeth look. However you will find it difficult to find a dentist or oral surgeon willing to extract a perfectly healthy tooth and then replace it. Nothing in dentistry is permanent even implants, so sooner or later anything used to replace the missing tooth would fail. Also its rarely possible to replace a tooth which looks as good/as natural as an original tooth especially with a single front tooth. It may be that it is possible to orthodontically align the tooth with a removable brace and your never too old my mum had hers straightened at 44. If theres anything else you'd like to know about please post again

Hope this helps

Thanks! But I fear that this tooth has gone beyond the stage where just the nights will be sufficient..

MrXLA - thanks for your post, much appreciated. I just need to get over this fear that everyone will laugh at me when they see me. I am known to be over conscious of my looks!
Also this will have to be done privately as it is seen as cosmetic surgery. If the tooth was causing physical discomfort then it would come under NHS but if not then you will have to pay!

Yeah I figured! Saving the pennies!
My daughter had a sticky out upper tooth and her brill dentist just made a couple of veneers for the two teeth either side of her 4 middle teeth and they look superb. Hollywood smile. She also had a bottom brace for only 9 months and a retainer at the back of the bottom after that which you cant see. Shes only 16 so had it all done free but it was all done and dusted within 9 months. She spent 2 years deciding whether or not to have it done and now shes so pleased and has since been in a magazine and won a beauty pageant x :) and dont worry about being scared, most people are because its not normal to have someone else poking around inside your mouth x

Yes most likely you will get a Vaneer. Thank God for cosmetic surgery!!!!

Good luck yummy, Just think, at least its only one tooth and not all...lol
