I read a newspaper article around a month ago which indicated that traces of poison from plastic (PET) bottles is contaminating our drinks (website below outlines the story). I have not heard any more on this subject since, even though I have trawled the net. Has anybody seen this story or seen an update since?

Loads of ongoing comments in the industry - have a look at the full list of contaminants - pthalates, nitrates, bacterias, coliforms, chemicals, toluene (from the petro chemical industry), bromodichloromethane, arsenic - its all there for your enjoyment! See: http://www.nrdc.org/water/drinking/bw/appa.asp and see comments in final column. This is a US site but has relevance as there are plenty of opportunities for producers to mess up the bottling - Coca Colas efforts come to mind....

And don't forget the water cooler in the office - ever seen one being treated and cleaned??

There is a new body in the UK that has been set up to cover the bottling of mineral water, see: http://www.britishbottledwater.org/index.html and obviously there has to be some bacteria about or we will live in a sterile bubble and get seriously ill as soon the chance presents itself if we can't build resistance, but the real worry should be the contamination of water by chemicals that lead to cancers etc.,

my dad is completely against anything plastic. I agree with him after hearing about all of the stuff that's in it :s
