Hi Everyone have had a rough couple of months with stomach pain and loose bowl movements. I went to my GP and need to get a colonoscopy am bloody terrified. Think its probably IBS but have horrible fear that it is something more sinister. Should I be worried.

No need to worry. The bowel is a highly sensitive organ, and can be severely irritated by nothing very much at all.

The colonoscopy is painless, they give you a sedative first. i had one a few weeks ago, felt nothing, and remembered nothing about it at all.

So don't worry, the chances are all will be OK.

Thanks Andy appreciate your answer

I have had the same sort of symptons myself over the past couple of months, and have actually got to have an abdominal ultrasound tomorrow morning.I myselfr suspect that it will be some form of irritable bowel, but i can understand your fears as sometimes your mind des sometimes tend to focus on the worst possible outcome.

But as the previous poster said, the bowel/colon is sensitive so anything could set it off.

Just thought i'd post this to let you know that others out here know how you are feeling...and good luck :)

IBS is a lot more common than you think sweetsal and it varies from person to person. I have certain foods that set mine off and stress makes it worse (work is poo at the moment so I'm pretty matey with the loo right now).Yoga has really helped me relax and peppermint capsules are helpful too.

Good luck with the colonoscopy - you'll be fine.
