had to have 2 fillings in my back teeth. Took about 3/4 hr to do. Total cost 190 !!! is this standard? I know that in the region where I live I have to be Private but this does seem excessive!!

I go private and they cost me 40 each filling.
I just paid 525 for a root canal & dental hygenist, cost included x-rays. No chance of NHS dentist. Scandalous.
I did pay a fee on top of that to make up a new file and x-rays as naughty me hadnt been for a while. So if youi havent been for a while maybe thats why it cost you that much.
no, go every 6 months, just moved house, the only dentist that would even see me.
I'd say thats a bit of a rip off then
Seems a bit steep. I've just had a gold crown, for which I had to go private, and that was just short of 200, all in.

Have a look here:

There seems to be a huge variation in prices - 50 - 200

I have a friend who knows someone training to be a dentist and they say that there are no set costs for what a private practitioner should charge, some of them take a look at you when you walk through the door and charge what they think you can afford. So maybe next time you should dig out your oldest most tatty clothes!
hannahjo may well be right, my dentist was really good to me when I was at uni but now Im working he is a bit pricier!!
