does anyone know who andy hughes is? he always have the right answers and knows what to say. judging from his answers, he seem to be full of life experiences. i think he is one of the most brilliant, if not the smartest on AB. he is so wise and likeable. cheers andy hughes!

a sycophant (my dictionary says) is someone who flatters another in order to gain some advantage. What possible advantage is there is praising the contributions of another AB user? andy-hughes is, I believe, a founder member who used to work for the owners of AB. He seems to have thought a lot about human nature. He answers questions where he knows something about the matter and stays out of those he doesn't. He doesn't whinge about why his posts are banned, doesn't swear, and doesn't complain about other users. His posts are always worth reading whether you agree with them or not.

Sorry to have ruffled your feathers jno and indeed sorry to andy hughes who I do not know from adam, but many years ago my relationship hit a particular bad patch and the most sickening memories from that period were the creepy men who found a way to let you know how understanding they were blah blah blah and unfortunatley Messer Hughes with his style of reply always reminds me of that type of person.

okay HatPin but if someone was understanding, how would you expect them to behave? Should they somehow do it differently from the ones who annoyed you? As far as I can see andy is polite and factual and doesn't let his own emotions intrude on what he's saying. Fair enough if you don't like that sort of approach, but how would you like it done?

Agree with jno - he's always given well thought out fair-minded answers & if anyone's disagreed he's seen their side too. From what we know about him he seems to be a very secure person who doesn't give the answers he does to gain admiration.

I do know what HatPin (love the name!) is saying though but those insincere types don't take very long to show their true colours.

Oh dear what have I started!

These were not understanding males jno, they were simply using a sycophantic approach to gain (I presume) trust when I was feeling rather vunerable. This I know has nothing to do with Andy-Hughes per se, but it is the reason I stopped reading his replies many moons ago as his style of reply reminds me of someone very creepy. I apologise once again to Andy, I should not of viewed my opinion in such a personal thread.

Hatpin, where I understand what you are saying about Andy resembling someone you once knew, is it really fair of you to judge Andy on the actions of someone else? Would you not be horrified to think someone had dismissed and judged you as easily as you have based on something that you have not done?

Andy helped me so much when I was going through some personal problems, for the most part he just listened to me while all I yapped and advised where he thought necessary. He is unassuming, non judgmental, impartial and his advise to me helped me more than he will ever know.
