Does anyone else suffer with terrible headaches when it's overcast or stormy - like I do?
I dread these kind of days, as being a sinusitis sufferer, getting migraines on top of it is so debilitating!
What is it about the atmosphere that causes this to happen?

I've had a massive migraine headache & sinus pressure since yesterday, thought I'd shifted it at lunchtime but it came back. It's now down to tolerable.
I know I'm affected by changes in air pressure, whenever the weather becomes nice & warm I spend the first day or 2 with a blinder....then it usually changes back again. I think it's aggravated by pollen too but rather than being snuffly I get stuffed up sinuses.
I've been to ENT where they said they prefer not to interfere with sinuses nowadays as it can be risky as well as unsuccessful. Seems we just have to suffer until the pain killers work (& antibiotics if there's infection).
:o(
I just turned 50 a couple of weeks ago and have suffered from migraines since the age of 15. It tooks years to find a doctor that believed they were truly migraines. I now (and have for quite some time) take Imitrex 100mg tablets, along with hydrocodone 10/500 on a daily basis as a preventative. The Imitrex can only be taken twice in 24 hours. It has helped tremendously.
Low pressure systems bother me the most. This has been a real subject of debate in the medical field here in the States, but docs are now realizing it DOES affect migraine sufferers. I call myself a walking barometer because I can tell you sometimes a week in advance when it's going to rain. Not only does the low pressure bother me, the pollen from spring/summer will trigger sinus problems, that will, in turn trigger a migraine.
There is hope, though! The older I get, I have found the intensity of headaches not at severe. I still will have anywhere from 3-7 a week, but they're mostly manageable. I rarely miss work from them any longer.
Another trigger for migraines is lack of sleep and caffeine. I know some medications to treat them are caffeine based, but i've found the more of it I consume, the more headaches I get.
I hope you feel better! There's nothing worse than spending your day feeling like your brains are going to pop out of your head at any minute!
Glad you're feeling better today smudge, I am too but I've not done much as I felt wiped out as I always do after a bad head.
I heard a lady doctor talking (very sympathetically) on Radio 2 a few weeks ago about migraines, maybe you did too. She explained, for those who don't know, that during a migraine your digestive system shuts down & unless you take medication before it does so then no amount of pain killers are going to work as they won't be absorbed. It also explains why you can't eat, feel nauseous or are sick during an episode. It was something I'd never understood before.
Here's to some settled weather!
Hi Robinia - thank you for your good wishes.
I'm sorry you have been suffering too - I agree, it's the overwhelming tiredness that's gets to you after having a bad head.
I have to say I'd been really suffering for over a week with sinusitus (even though I've cut down on milk), then to have a migraine on top of that was just too much! I felt so rough yesterday, last night & this morning, but do feel quite a lot better, at the mo'. It really took it out of me doing the garden, but I felt the need to be outside!
Thank you for that info, it's interesting to know! I hadn't had a migraine for about two years, but have had two in the last month - zig zags the lot! I usually take two pink migraleve as soon as I feel one coming on, which usually prevents it getting worse - but if I have run out of them God help me, I'm really in for it! I always keep Motilium for nausea which comes in handy for times like that too!
Let's hope things improve for all us suffers eh?!
