Scars & tanning

Hi,

As the result of an op 5 months ago, I have some large areas of scarring. I have been told that if my scar catched the sun it will go red and stay red forever. Is this true?

I would like to start using the sunbeds again as it helps my excema and makes me feel brighter. Can anyone suggest what I would use to cover the scars, surgical tape has been suggested.

I'm sorry I don't know what you can use to cover the scars but I can confirm that scars tend to go darker in the sun.

I got burnt by a cigaratte about a year ago, then when I went on holiday in october my scar went darker than the rest of me, ands it has stayed that way (although this has faded from what it was). It went brown though, not red. Can't say whether it'd be the same for all scars though.

your scars will prob go darker than the rest of you, may or may not be red, but rather a brownish red colour. Also, it is much better if you sunbathe under natural sun, you get a better colour and its safer as its not so harsh. Try after 4pm. If you have to use a sunbed use a lie down bed which dont tend to be as strong as the stand up beds, and cover your scars with UV Proof material, which may be hard to find. Tape should be fine.

i have a massive scar on my arm & chest & have used sunbeds & sunbathed. the scar does go a little darker, but fades along with the rest of the tan. i would reccomend trying to reduce the scar 1st though with a little bio oil (chemists aprox �10)- 5 months is still faily new for a scar, so it should really help.

I have a scar on my leg and one on my arm, when they are exposed to the sun they do tend to go a bright red colour, but this colour fades at the same speed as the tan fades. Just put some very high factor sunscreen on the scar
