I am interested in getting hair extensions but I have heard they can really damage your hair which I don't want. I have my hair lightened so how would I go on having my roots done if I had extensions? And how badly could they damage my hair? Which are the best ones to get?

I had really long hair extensions put in a few years ago,but within 24 hours they drove me so mad that I took them all out myself. The glue with which they sealed the extensions made my scalp itch so much that I was scratching my scalp till I almost bled.Worst money I ever spent.
best off buying the ones that you clip in so you can take them out when they annoy you and put them back in as you wish. you can buy human hair ones that can be treated just as you treat your hair (dyed, curled, straightened etc) although they are not inexpensive they are not as dear as extensions
you need to go to www.lucindaellery.com, hair extension specialists, i am going there myself for an appt, the hair is put on on individual strands and behaves just like your normal hair. They even treat hair loss and make sure your own hair is protected and conditioned. It is expensive yes, but lasts 3 months and allows your own hair to grow naturally, no glues or weird stuff. Celebrities have used it, however should cost you arond 400.
Just grow your hair!I have very long hair and as a result I do not need extensions.
I agree with barry&betty: Go for clip-ins! I have these and they really do look natural and come in all sorts of different shades and variations of colour. Sally's stock 36 shades, and they're 15.99 a set there! (You'll need 2 sets for thick coverage though - and it's 100% human hair, so you can straighten it or curl it or whatever you fancy). A set of hair lasts 3-6 months if you wear it every day (all depends on the quality of the hair and how you style it)

The best permanent extensions to get are supposed to be the glue-in ones as braiding pulls too much on your hair and causes breakage. The damage permanent extensions can cause is breakage of your own hair where the extensions are connected, and patch BALDNESS (!) due to your own hair being pulled at the root.

Personally I wouldn't go down the permanent extensions route. They're very expensive, it would be difficult to wash and dye your hair, you're not supposed to use conditioner because it breaks down the glue, and it damages your own hair. It also costs a lot of money to maintain as you need to get them re-set when your own hair grows in.

Maybe try clip-ins first to see if you like them? Then you can sleep with them out, which must be so much more comfortable :)

dont get the real ones!!! especially not on lighter coulor hair as they ruin it, itch and end up looking like rats tails as the fall out in clumps. You can spot real extensions a mile off.

Get the gule in ones - they are so easy to glue in and doesnt take long. All you have to do to get them out is put loads of conditioner in and they slide out. Then you;ll be left with the remaining glue so get some (CHEAP) conditioner and cover your scalp in it and leave on for hours - as long as you can and comb through. It all comes out and is good condition after. You can then get it lightened etc and whack em back in when its done! Ive found that if, after a few weeks of using the same hair, (of course you do wash it in between!) cover it in a serum and leave for half an hour and rinse off - it just gives the hair a new boost of life!! They say on packets not to but it works very well and means you have to buy the hair less often!!

oh yeah....and you'll probably save yourself about 500!! If not more as real hair is more expensive and you really dont want the acrylic hair stuff! My hair is really thick and i need to use alot of the glue in hair to make it the same thickness - one packet costs 19.99 and lasts 2/3 'heads' . the glue is 4.99 for the bonded glue and about 5.99 for liquid gold which is a lot stronger and keeps hair in longer - although slightly more difficult to get out!
Hi,am also interested in extensions. Was going to buy clip-on ones on ebay, but wasn't sure if I could apply them myself? Would it not be very difficult to get them all the one length at the back? Sorry if that's a silly question!
