Further to my earlier question, it is now very likely that I have a large hematoma (build up of blood) at the bottom of my back.

Does anyone have any experience of these, how long they take to go away and if there is anything I can do to speed up the process?

All help appreciated!

Haematoma: According to BMA family health it says that most clear up after a few days. If the doc thinks it is serious then he/she may lance it. They can cause considerable pain (perhaps you didn't want to know that?) Book does give quite a lot more detail - but don't want to alarm u or blind u with science. If you do need to know more please say - and I'll type it all out?!?

A large haematoma may take up to 3 weeks to disappear. A cold compress will reduce swelling and pain slightly but it will just take its own time to be reabsorbed by the body.
Once came off my bike, ended up with a subdural haematoma on my thigh - basically a big old bruise. Eventually cleared up in a few weeks.
