Science corner:


The substance in chillis, also used in curry powder, binds to the same receptors on the nerve ending that are activated when heat is experienced. So effectively this chemical makes you feel the same sensations as you would when you are warm.


Unfortunately I can't remember what that substance is called or what the receptor it binds to is called, but I hope that is still helpful.
