Women Ovulating

This may sound silly but my sister and I were talking about the menapause.. she then went off track a bit andstarted on about hormones,
She's heard "somewhere" that if a group of women were in a commune (such as nuns) etc. they all had periods at the same time, because they passed "hormones" around!
Has anyone else ever heard this?

For some reason, my A level philosophy teacher was fascinated with this phenomenon and spent many lessons printing off studies about it instead of teaching us! One statistic he showed us:
A group of 10 or so undergrads in uni halls were studied; within six months they had all synchronised to within 3-4 days of each other.
Thanks for the link Ethel.

Yes ~ it certainly does happen, but usually when the relationships are 'close' (sorry to say it, SR!).
I worked in an all-female environment, and within about a year we had all synchronised periods. We found it strange that at first we became irregular, and one by one we were all on at the same time!
The same thing has happened with me & my daughter. One month she was very late and eventually came on 2 weeks later..on the day I started :) we are still in sync much to Mr Pippas delight, LOL.

As a side note, when I planned my wedding I discovered that I was going to be on my period on the day we had arranged to wed.
6 months before the wedding my period was a day before it was due..and in the months following I continued to come on a day earlier than I should have.
This meant that my period actually finished a week before my wedding! did I will this to happen? or did mother nature just decide to be kind to me :o)
